Every Little Bit Helps – Shorty Vox Populi Promo Video – THE ECHELON HOUSE

The Shorty Interview

with Echelon House

What’s your best tweet?
Any one that made someone think “I can help out, even though I didn’t think it was enough.”

What are six things you could never do without?
For this project specifically: Optimism, music, a sketchbook, constant support, and of course, the Echelon family.

How do you use Twitter in your professional life?
I don’t use it as much for my ‘actual’ job, but I do use it for this project, which is really my labour of love.

What’s your favorite Twitter app?
Tweetdeck, bar none. Makes things much easier to organize and keep track of. It helps me visually understand ebbs and flows of my content.

Twitter or Facebook?
With an international fanbase, both social media outlets are crucial to helping spread the word, gather momentum, and gain feedback.

Who do you wish had a Twitter feed but doesn’t?
Bob Dylan. Although sometimes you need to keep a bit of mystery.

What are some words or phrases you refuse to shorten for brevity?I refuse to shorten words (ur, 4, etc) because I think correct language is important. But 140 characters = creative word choice & spacing!

Is there someone you want to follow you who doesn’t already? If so, who?
Maybe @30SECONDSTOMARS. But they have included us on their facebook page, so it would just be an added bonus! Their support is amazing.

Have you ever unfollowed someone? Who and why?
I don’t think so. For this project I mostly follow the 30SECONDSTOMARS team members as well as other members of Habitat for Humanity.

Why should we vote for you?
We may not be the biggest, the most well known, or have the most resources. But we do it because we care, and we won’t give up.

Terms you wish would start trending on Twitter right now?#EveryLittleBitHelps, of course! Also#charity #payitforward #positivethings#causes and#TogetherWeCanMakeADifference

What’s the most interesting connection you’ve made through Twitter?
So many! I’ve connected with people from around the world, sharing stories, laughter, and hope. Together we CAN make a difference.

Hashtag you created that you wish everyone used?
#EveryLittleBitHelps. I really, truly believe that. That’s what this project is about.

How do you make your tweets unique?
Appealing to the sense of community & being the voice of the project, but also being human & interactive. Everyone can help make a difference

What inspires you to tweet?
Knowing that people are being helped by what we’re doing. That by bringing people together, we’re making a tangible difference in the world.

Ever get called out for tweeting too much?
Sometimes I get really excited when we’re close to finishing a house, and end up apologizing for overtweeting. I’m my own worst critic!

140 characters of advice for a new user?
Think before you hit enter. Be honest, but be wise. Don’t say anything you wouldn’t want to yell in Times Square, unless you’re anonymous.

How long can you go without a tweet?
A couple of days at most – sometimes I’ll tweet a bunch in one day, sometimes I’ll give it more breathing room. I try and feel it out.

What question are we not asking here that we should?
How can YOU make twitter better, users? How can you help change the world? (This was my last year answer…and now it’s a survey Q!)

How do you imagine Twitter changing?
It will become simultaneously more and less the voice of the people and the voice of the corporation. We’ll both draw and blur the lines.

Who do you admire most for his or her use of Twitter?
Anyone trying make things better, instead of just complaining about things. People that are honest and make others smile & laugh.

What is one of the biggest misconceptions of Twitter?
That it’s only used for celebrity stalking, telling people what you’re doing 24/7, and dumbing down society…140 characters at a time.

Why should people follow you?
Because everyone can help, and it’s fun . We have lots of creative projects to participate in, and great stuff for sale – 100% to charity!

Can you name some one-of-a-kind Twitter accounts that you follow?
A great one is @philo_quotes. Definitely thought-provoking.

How do you decide what to tweet?
I usually focus on how we’re doing, our goals, new projects to participate in, or good RT’s from others. I try and make everything positive.

Why’d you start tweeting?
For people to participate in this project, to make it their own. It’s not a corporation or a faceless entity. I want it to belong to everyone

Has Twitter changed your life? If yes, how?
This project has changed my life, & twitter is a part of that, in a way. Twitter has altered the way I interact with people, definitely.

What do you wish people would do more of on Twitter?
Realize that they can have a positive impact. Our project is done entirely by fans. Everyone doing their small part makes a BIG difference.

How will the world change in the next year?
Continue to technologically advance, and hopefully socially advance. We have seen some, where ‘regular people’ can influence media & change.

What are some big Twitter faux pas?
Incessant spamming. CAPSLOCK! Nonstop RT’s or photos. Full-on conversations better suited to IM chats. Chatspeak. Stalking.

What will the world be like 10 years from now?
One always hopes that the world moves forward instead of backward. We need to make sure we are in control of the technology, not the reverse

AND DON’T FORGET, nominate @TheEchelonHouse for a Shorty Award in #charity !!!
